2-day East Coast Adventure: Snowmobile and Cabin Escape
Tour Description
Difficulty level: 4 of 5
Group Size: minimum 3, maximum 6 participants
Season: End of February – April
Departure: 08:30
This two-day overnight snowmobile expedition is all about immersing yourself in the wild beauty of Svalbard. Traveling in a small group, we’ll set off from Longyearbyen, crossing vast glaciers and heading towards the remote east coast of Spitsbergen. Out here, in polar bear country, you’ll experience the stillness and solitude of the Arctic wilderness - far away from the noise of civilization.
We’ll spend the night in the warm, rustic comfort of our trapper’s cabin in Fulmardalen. The next day, we head back to the east coast for more exploration before returning to Longyearbyen.
Itinerary
Day 1 Mohnbukta - A World Like No Other
Start your day at 08:30 as your guide picks you up from your hotel. Following a safety brief, we’ll pack our snowmobiles and gear up for the adventure ahead. The first day takes us through Adventdalen, Sassendalen, and Fulmardalen, where our cozy trapper’s cabin is nestled between the mountains. The terrain starts with wide-open valleys, perfect for getting comfortable on the snowmobile. Riding across the snow-covered tundra, watching the vast Arctic landscape glide by, is an experience like no other. After a quick stop at the cabin, we’ll continue over the glaciers towards Mohnbukta and the East Coast. Before heading down into the bay we like to stop, because here can scout for wildlife from a safe distance. By evening, we’ll return to the trapper’s cabin in Fulmardalen. Here, we’ll prepare a hearty dinner and settle in for the night, enjoying the tranquility of the Arctic wilderness.
Day 2 – Untouched Wilderness of Agardh
The second day brings new opportunities for adventure as we set out on a different route to the East Coast, this time we want to explore the bay of Agardh. This area is visited less frequently and we are hoping to see the seaice here and in Storfjorden. On a clear day you can see all the way to Barentsøya and Edgeøya, two far away islands. Occasionally, glacier ice from calving glaciers becomes embedded in the sea ice, creating an awe-inspiring, otherworldly landscape.
For the return journey, we’ll decide between routes depending on conditions. We may pass through the historic mining area of Svea or take a route along the West Coast. Expect to be back in Longyearbyen around 17:00, wrapping up two incredible days in Svalbard’s wilderness.
