    • Description

This 2-day overnight snowmobile expedition will offer a concentrated Svalbard experience. In a small group, our journey will go from Longyearbyen over large glaciers towards the east coast of Spitsbergen and Mohnbukta. In this polar bear country, you will really be able to get the feeling of being alone out in the wilderness, far from civilization.

The night is spent in the warm and safe atmosphere of our trapper's cabin in Fulmardalen. In the cabin's warm and intimate room, we cook dinner together and have time to digest the day's experiences. The next day, the journey once again goes to the east coast and the polar bear kingdom.

      Itinerary

      Day 1:

After breakfast, the guide will pick you up at the accommodation at 08:30 for transport down to our storage for a safety briefing and short introduction to the tour. This gives you the opportunity to get to know other possible participants and together we pack and prepare the equipment for the trip. We go through the planned route on the map and give you an update on the latest weather forecast for the area.

Equipment and luggage are lashed to the sleds, and you are given solid and warm snowmobile clothing. We expect to drive out of the city at about 11:00.

Today's plan is to go through Adventdalen and out Sassendalen. In Fulmardalen, which is a side valley to Sassen, our trapper's cabin is located. After a short stop at the cabin, we head over the glacier plateau to the northeast and down into Mohnbukta on the East Coast. Here is the opportunity for us to see polar bears and at regular intervals we will at safe distance stop to scout for bears and seals.

A long day of snowmobiling through the Arctic wonderland ends in our trapper's cabin in Fulmardalen. Here we prepare dinner and get ready for the night in a warm and safe room.

      Day 2:

Our last day in the Arctic wilderness offers a new opportunity to make the trip over to the East Coast via a different route than yesterday's, which also is far less travelled. On this day, we head straight east to Agardh-bukta.

For the return home we can either reroute through the old mining area of Svea or the West Coast. We will be back in Longyearbyen at approx. 17:00.

      Disclaimer

The itinerary may vary slightly depending on the tour description. Weather and wind may make necessary to choose to drive longer or shorter distances than what is outlined for the individual day. There are good opportunities to see polar bears on the trip, but we cannot give any guarantee. The guide will at all times consider adapting the route to the conditions.
