Description
Set out on one of our most popular ski touring adventures to Trollsteinen, an iconic peak standing 850 meters above sea level. This tour offers the perfect mix of a scenic climb, untouched mountainsides, and the reward of panoramic views stretching across Longyearbyen, the Larsbreen glacier, and the surrounding wilderness.
Your day begins with a pickup from your accommodation. After arriving at our base, your guide will conduct a safety briefing and share the day’s plan, ensuring everyone is ready for the day ahead. If you’re renting equipment, your gear will be prepared and you can come 30 minutes early, so you can step straight into the adventure. Starting from Nybyen, you and the group will quickly disappear into a rugged moraine landscape shaped by the glacier. Surrounded by 500-meter-high plateaus, you also enter the realms of Arctic silence at this point. This area is free from snowmobile traffic, leaving you with only the sounds of the wind coming down the glacier, the distant call of an Arctic fox, or maybe just your group chatting and enjoying the journey together.
As you climb higher, the route opens into a picturesque traverse across the Larsbreen glacier, revealing stunning vistas wherever you turn. The final stretch brings you to the summit, where Trollsteinen’s unique rock formation stands tall, marking the pinnacle of the adventure. At the top, take in boundless panoramas while you enjoy a warm expedition lunch, with views stretching all the way to Hiorthfjellet and beyond. The descent offers its own adventure. If we’re lucky, we’ll cruise through soft powder — but as nature decides, we might also find wind-packed or icy stretches. But that's no news to you, you’re a skier as well.
Back in Nybyen, you pause and look back, but Trollsteinen has already disappeared, hidden behind the mountain plateau. The only trace left is your ski tracks in the snow. What a day!
