Description
The trip starts with pickup from the accommodation and transport down to our storage where the guide gives a short briefing about the trip. Everyone is allocated equipment to take up to the ice cave, prepares the equipment they will take with them and the transport then goes to the car park where we continue on foot with snowshoes over the snow.
Once the snowshoes are fitted, we head straight for the glacier and ice cave where we will spend the night. It doesn't take long before we arrive in the shadow of the lighting from Longyearbyen, and into the polar night where you really get a feel for arctic life outside of civilization.
Once inside the magical cave, you get to experience an underground world with halls, narrow passages and thick layers of powerful ice crystals. We then prepare dinner to be enjoyed in our crystallized dining room before crawling into our sleeping bags for the night and falling asleep to the sounds of a glacier in constant motion.
After a good breakfast, we pack up and prepare for the return down the glacier. Then it's a short way back to Longyearbyen and civilization. We expect to be back in Longyearbyen at 11:00.
