SKI TOURING

By snowmobile, we quickly get into the best ski touring areas Spitsbergen has to offer, and there are few places in the world where you can experience the combination of both amazing ski touring and driving a snowmobile yourself. Our local guides have the expertise needed to facilitate safe and action-packed adventure far away from the usual crowds and take you where the conditions are best. We can offer package tours with accommodation in Longyearbyen and day trips by scooter, or overnight trips where we stay in a base camp or in a cabin. Or a combination of these for the ultimate skiing experience here on Svalbard. Here is a selection of trips we have completed in the past:

Atomfjella - The ultimate ski touring destination

Atomfjella is world-renowned for its steep alpine mountains that are surrounded by large glaciers. Setting up a base camp we have the opportunity to offer longer stays in the best mountain areas combined with the experience of true Arctic silence. This trip can be offered to groups of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 people with a duration of 7 - 10 days.

Svea

If you preferer shorter tours, we also have closer ski touring areas that are well-beloved by locals for its variety of skiable summits. E.g. The Svea area, is only 2-3 hours away from Longyearbyen, but you will still most likely meet more reindeer than other people. There are fantastic ski mountains in all directions and so there are plenty of choices to select the descents where conditions are the best that day. And with the midnight sun as your best friend, there might be room for a little bonus evening trip.

Winter camp in Endalen

In order to get a true arctic winter camp experience combined with maximum days of skiing, we can also offer combinations of a few days in our winter camp in Endalen and then go on an overnight ski touring trip by snowmobile and spend some nights in a commercial cabin in a different area. Our Endalen base camp is perfectly located between easily accessible ski mountains in a snowmobile free area, so even though it is not too far from civilization, it is unlikely that you will meet others.

E.g we can have two nights in camp, then head back to Longyearbyen for a well-deserved hot shower and a night in a warm bed before packing up the scooters and continuing our skiing adventure. We stay in self-catered or serviced cabins and take day trips on scooters and skis from there.

SKI EXPEDITIONS

Spitsbergen Ski Expedition - Oscar II Land

At the end of May, summer is on its way, and this period is therefore an ideal time for ski trips in Svalbard. With the help of organized boat transport, it is possible to go on long ski trips in fantastic nature without meeting other people. Along the glaciers on the west side of Svalbard, the mountains are sharper and more alpine than they are further east.

A ski trip over the large glaciers on Vest-Spitsbergen in June can therefore be the total Svalbard experience. An encounter with strong contrasts: from days of northerly wind, snow and biting cold, via cold polar fog and vertigo to fantastic sunny days. From fjords with a bustling bird and animal life, to large white glaciers where the mountains form the horizon. On the glaciers there is ice and snow, while further down the shore the flowers are growing and the birds are on nests.

Each day we will cover around 15 to 20 kilometers on skis, day stages will vary according to terrain, weather, road and the group. The route will be on easy terrain, mainly on gentle glaciers surrounded by mountain ridges. We will pass some wide passes with fantastic views. In the areas where the glacier forms cracks, the group passes safely bound in rope layers.

The route itself will vary somewhat from year to year: Roughly speaking, we will go north across Esmarkbreen and into Trollheimen. In this adventurous area of Svalbard, nature truly lives up to its name. We will cover many kilometers in this wonderland. The journey through Trollheimen will go over the Nansen Pass and down to Borebreen. If the snow conditions are good, we will follow the Borebreen all the way towards the Vintervegen, and take it down into the St. Jonsfjorden. After fresh fjord air, we will head back into the country, across the Osborn glacier and up onto the mighty glacier plateau where the Kongsvegen starts. On the north side of the Kongsveg glacier, Svalbard's majesties come into view. In front of us are Dronningpasset and Tre Kronor. If the weather is good and the progress is good, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the view of Kongsfjorden from the top of Nora, and then slide down to Ekmannfjorden.

The last stage takes us through the glacier and down to the fjord. Ekmannfjorden is one of our favourites, with characteristic red sandstone mountains and a rich bird and animal life. If we're lucky, we'll see seals on the ice and maybe polar bears. The boat picks us up in the afternoon and we expect to arrive during the afternoon where there is time for a shower before a well-deserved dinner.

SNOWMOBILE EXPEDITIONS

Multi-day deluxe snowmobile safari

For those who want to see as much as possible of the raw and pristine landscape that Svalbard has to offer during the winter, and increase the chances of seeing the King of the Arctic, the polar bear, we have on several occasions taken guests on longer snowmobile overnight trips than our standard 3-day trip.

We recommend starting with 2 to 3 nights in our trapper's cabin in Fulmarhytten. From there you can explore the famous east coast and it is also a short way north towards Pyramiden. We could then move west to spend a few nights in a serviced or self-serviced cabin and finally we finish with a comfortable and luxurious stay with gourmet food at Isfjord Radio. This is the true deluxe package for those who want to experience the varied landscape of Spitsbergen by snowmobile.

MULTI-DAY TREKKING EXPEDITIONS

Prins Karls Forland

Along the central west coast of Spitsbergen, Prins Karls Forland forms an 86 km long and 11 km wide island. Towards this island's western coast, the waves break directly from the Arctic Ocean, and North Greenland becomes the next land mark in the west. The island is a landscape of contrasts with alpine peaks, iridescent grasslands and barren stone deserts side by side.

In this wonderful landscape, we can offer an 8-day long hike. We will wander with the tent on our backs, and make a new camp for each night. We will experience a wonderfully rich wildlife and visit cultural monuments from previous fishing and industrial activity on the archipelago of Svalbard. During the trip, we will really feel like part of the great wilderness, and the probability of meeting other people in this part of Svalbard is minimal.

KAYAK  EXPEDITIONS

Multi-day Spitsbergen Kayak Expedition

The summer in Svalbard offers a varied experience of magnificent nature, rich wildlife, historical cultural monuments and, not least, the feeling of peace and tranquility in untouched nature. A journey through the arctic landscape is best achieved with sufficient time and silence to sense and digest the experiences.

A multi-day trip with kayak as means of transport will give you time and peace for an unforgettable journey. In single or two-man kayaks, we set off for the fjords in the heart of Svalbard. Here, we will get into untouched nature, and encounter varied natural and cultural experiences. From magnificent mountains, via open plains to spectacular glacier fronts. From 300-year-old traces of whale fishing to today's modern fishing in Svalbard

For the more experienced paddlers, we can offer groups of at least 4 people a longer trip than our standard 4-day trip in the Billefjord , where you together with our our experienced kayak guides plan the trip in based on your preferences. It will undoubtedly be a memory for life.
