Trollsteinen: Hike to the summit 850 meter above sea level
Our summit to Trollsteinen is very popular!
We pick up our guests at the city's hotels and get ready for today's summit.
Trollsteinen, 850 masl, made the name of the mountain due to its shape and location at the top of the mountain.
The terrain we walk in consists of a river that must be crossed, rocky natural terrain and not least a glacier that must be crossed. During the snowmelt in the summer, we hike an alternative route that is a little longer than during the winter to avoid terrain with slush snow and mud.
We take small breaks along the way to enjoy the view and nature around us. The lunch break comes when the guide finds the right time for a longer break - and then it's smart to bring binoculars and a camera. The silence up here is relaxing!
Now we can see that the mountain ridge is involved in making a horseshoe around Larsbreen, or whatever your imagination tells you.
Bring a day trip backpack so that you have room for a warm sweater or similar, wearing during breaks and when we go down the slopes. And a water bottle is good to have if you get thirsty in our barren desert landscape. Camera and binoculars are smart to bring.
Our groups are often international, and guiding is normally in English.
The ride is medium plus to demanding – level 4/5.
Svalbard Wildlife Expeditions focuses on the environment and sustainability, so we take with us rubbish that appears on our hike.
Ordinary well-worn mountain shoes with a good sole are recommended due to a somewhat rocky terrain.
An alternative trip is Nordenskioldfjellet
