Fuglefjella: Hike through Bjørndalen to the bird montains

It is in the untouched nature you get the most magical Svalbard experience. In the fjords, the valleys and on the mountains you find sea birds nesting. You can experience the little auk, geese, guillemots, black guillemots, gulls, fulmars and maybe even the Svalbard Ptarmigan.

During the end of August and September less birds stay at Spitsbergen, and have returned to Warm climate areas.

We pick up our guests and drive to Bjørndalen, west from Longyearbyen. This is an area with lots of flora and fauna, and if we are lucky, maybe we will see the polar fox and reindeer passing.

After some kilometers, we park the minibus and start our hike to the bird mountain.
First, we cross a river before we start climbing up to the mountain. When we have reached the top, we will get a fantastic view and see most of Isfjorden. The bird cliff we are standing on ends right out in the sea; we are now on the biggest bird mountain in the area.

NB! If someone wants to take of his or her shoes while walking over the river to feel the Arctic water, you are welcome to do so.

On the way back, we pick up rubbish that shows up on our way. SWE focuses on sustainability and nature conservation.
